January 18th 2007,

Dear Parents,

Newsletter 2008/2

Staffing news: We have been pleased to welcome Mrs. Sarah Bugg onto the school staff this term to teach Class 2N.  Mrs. Bugg’s contract initially is for the present term but we are hopeful that we can extend her time at Minchinhampton until the end of the summer term.  We also welcome this term two B. Ed students in their final year of training before achieving Qualified Teacher Status.  Miss Bostock in class 2P and Miss West in class1 / 2 H.  During their 8 week block, they will become progressively taking on more responsible for the teaching timetable in their class.

“The crocodile that went snap”: We have had very few entries for the competition to illustrate Andrew Brown’s story.  We therefore remind children that they are invited to read the story (copies are available from the school office) and submit pictures of a part of or all of the story.  Closing date will now be the end of January.  This is an exciting opportunity to win prizes and to get the children’s work published.

Making Good Progress : Minchinhampton School is taking part in a national pilot scheme set up by the government where children are given extra support and help out of school hours by teacher tutors .  The aim is to help children who we believe could be making greater progress to make this enhanced progress in Literacy and Maths.  However there is a county wide shortage of tutors, and we can’t fully implement our plans for our pupils until further tutors are found. If anyone knows of suitably qualified teachers who might be interested in becoming tutors, please let me know.

Minchinhampton Baptist Church has :

  • a Sunday Fun Club for 5- 11 year old children at the Youth Centre  when the children enjoy team and messy games, art, craft and drama from 10.00 to 11.30 a.m. every two weeks commencing this Sunday,

and

  • Chapter 29 – a club for 7 – 13 year olds every Wednesday, 6.30 p.m. to 8.00 p.m. at the Baptist Church with  a variety of activities including puppet and drum and craft workshops, a dance workshop, a talent contest, a safari meal, etc.  For further details see the notice on the notice board or phone Sarah Powell on 887318

Snow gear : Mrs. Louisa Nott has a pair of navy ”Trespass” ski salopettes, age 2/3. They are adjustable as they fitted Charlie when he was aged 2 until 5 years. She also  has  a pair of child’s snow boots size 8/9.  Please call her if you are interested on . 889138. A small donation can be made to the PTA.

Gameboys, nintendos,  PSPs, mobile phones: I am sure that I don’t need to remind parents that gameboys, nintendos, PSPs, and mobile phones should not be brought to school by pupils.  I would appreciate it if parents could make sure that these items aren’t secretly brought into school by their children in the mornings.

School web-site: Don’t forget that these weekly newsletters are on the school web-site, minchinhamptonschool.ik.org.  I usually put the newsletter on the site as my last task late on Friday afternoons (but I have to admit that there have been a few occasions when I didn’t have time on that day)

Yours sincerely,

R.J.Harris
