July 11th 2008,
Dear Parents,
Newsletter 2008/22
The end is nigh!! End of term is on Friday next at 2.00 p.m. The final Assembly led by the Y6 leavers will be at 9.00 a.m. All parents are welcome to join us for this (emotional – bring your own tissues!) event. The Leavers’ Evening for Y6 parents is on Thursday evening in the school hall and the Leavers’ Service in the Baptist Church is on Tuesday at 2.30 p.m. Again, all parents are invited to the service.
Can I ask that all P.E. kit and your children’s bits and pieces from the classroom are taken home at the end of next week, so that we can tidy up for the summer holiday.
There is an enormous amount of lost property (mainly sweatshirts) in the lost property box by the hall doors. If your child has lost any clothing during the term, please check in the box.
Congratulations to the Rounders team that won the Stroud District competition and to `the swimming team that yesterday won the Stroud and District Swimming Gala. They have all done exceptionally well. We are very proud of you!
They were fantastic…..that is, the Y5/6 children who performed “A Holiday and a Half” yesterday. It was one of the most polished and best performances we have seen! Well done, children. It was excellent! The Musical Soiree was also delightful. I feel very proud of all the children who played so well during the evening. What a week!
Cakes for Wednesday’s secret retirement party – Please send all contributions of cakes and biscuits into the school office on Wednesday morning. We are very much hoping to keep this a big surprise for Mrs Andrews and Mrs Lillystone, so please use your utmost discretion!
Summer Holiday Activities : There is a vast range of activities on offer to the children during the summer, including the Adventure Club that is based in our school. There is a supply of pamphlets and leaflets available outside the school office and lots of information at the Children’s Centre in Nailsworth Library.
Term Dates for 2008 – 2009 : If you would like a copy of the term dates for the next school year, please call in to the office.
Medical : Please could you collect any inhalers, epipens, etc., from school on the last day of the term and supply in-date ones at the beginning of the Autumn Term.
School Lunches : Sodexho have announced that the cost of school lunches will be increased to £1.90 per day from the beginning of the Autumn Term. Please make a note of this when ordering lunches for next term.
Collections : Thank you to all those who gave so generously to the retiring collections at the Musical Soiree and the Y5/6 plays.
- £183 was collected at the Soiree for Mwagu School – this will be taken when we next visit and we will purchase goods for the school in Kenya (much cheaper than taking equipment with us and safer than sending money to the school)
- Not yet finished counting but over £500 so far collected for Jonathan Brough. This money will be used by his parents in the most suitable way that they think is best for him.
- £896 has been raised by the “Jump for Rope” held during our Sports Day. The British Heart Foundation gives back to the school 25% of that amount.
Children’s Theatre and Craft Workshop : Inspired by the fantastic children’s book “The man whose mother was a pirate” August 26th, 27th and 28th at Sapperton village Hall, 10 a.m. – 4.00 p.m. each day, with a performance for parents at 3.30 p.m. on Thursday 28th. For ages 6 – 11 years. £50.00 per child. During the morning sessions the children create scenery, props and costumes then after lunch they work on stage craft and theatre skills and prepare for the show.
Ladies theatre trip - “Footlose” at the Bristol Hippodrome :: Wednesday 3rd September, minibus leaves the Market Square at 6.00 p.m. £26.50 per ticket, 6 places available.

Summer Fair Prizes: Mrs. Hudd has told us that she has a prize which she can’t use. It is a voucher for four people to attend an introductory course for either cable, water ski or wave boarding at South Cerney Water Sports Centre. It is suggested that a donation could be made to the school. If anyone is interested, please contact Mrs. Whiting in the school office.
