4 Jul 2008 - Newsletter 2008/21
4th July 2008,
Dear Parents,
Newsletter 2008/21
Mrs. Broadhurst : Mrs. Broadhurst has been appointed to the post of Headteacher of Castle Hill Primary School in Brockworth with effect from January 1st 2009. Mrs. Broadhurst will leave Minchinhampton at the end of the Autumn Term 2008. We congratulate Mrs. Broadhurst and will miss her skills and expertise. Our loss is Castle Hill’s gain! I will keep you informed next term of how the governors are going to proceed in the appointment of a teacher to replace her.
Wildlife Quiz: Congratulations to the Wildlife Quiz Team who won the Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust Schools’ Competition on Wednesday. The four children Jemima Hooke, Katie McEllin, Lauren Holland and Issy Smith (and the support crew of Seb Howells and Amy Strevens) had shown a fantastic knowledge of British wildlife and won the final comfortably. We are very proud of them. The Owl Award sits proudly outside my office!
Athletics : Thank you to all the children who took part in the District Sports, either running, jumping or throwing. We came 7th and I was impressed with the children’s determination and effort that they put into their races. Thank you and well done all of you.
Leavers’ Service : The Leavers’ Service is on Tuesday July 15th at the Baptist Church in Tetbury Street at 2.30 p.m. All parents and friends are invited.
The Final Assembly of the school year is on the final day of the term, Friday July 18th, at 9.00 a.m. and it will be led by the Y6 leavers. Again, all parents and friends are invited to this occasion. (Hankies and tissues are supplied!)
Y5/6 play A final reminder that the Y5/6 performances of “A Holiday and a Half” are on Thursday of next week at 1.30 p.m. and 7.00 p.m. Everyone is invited to come to enjoy the play which I can assure you will be excellent. There will be a retiring collection at the end of each performance which will be given to the Jonathan Brough Appeal. Jonathan is an ex-pupil who has been struck down by the meningitis virus and has been seriously paralysed. The collection will go towards the purchase of a specially adapted electric wheelchair that will enable Jonathan to become more mobile in the future.
Musical Soiree : The annual feast of music performed by our children is a delight to enjoy. This takes place at 7.00 p.m. on Monday 7th in the school hall. It is always a wonderful evening when we can enjoy our children’s musical talents.
Pandemonium Theatre:
The Pandemonium Theatre will be in school on Tuesday 15th July performing two plays, “Just So” (based on the story of how the elephant got his trunk) for the KS1 children and “Victorian Values” (when we peep behind the lace curtains of the upper classes and peer through grimy windows of the poor) for the KS2. The cost to the school is nearly £300 so we are asking parents to make a voluntary donation of £1.00 per family to help cover the cost. Please send the £1s into school as soon as possible. This will be excellent value for your children. If you would like to come to watch one of the performances, please do come along – free of charge!
PTA News : Fireworks – We still need volunteers to help run the Fireworks Night. Could you buy stock, set up on the day and/or organise a team of helpers for either the bar or barbecue or sweets/glow sticks? We also need someone to be responsible for the marshals.
The fireworks need to be sorted independently but we need to book them now. We already have a kind volunteer to handle the tickets and posters, etc. This event has grown enormously over the past five years and has become established as a great community event. Let’s not allow it to fizzle out.
Can you save the day? Please call Paula Cole on 883209 if you can.
A message from Alison Blundell:
Yr 6 Leavers Rounders Afternoon Friday 18th July at 2.30 p.m. Thank you to all those who have returned their slips for the Y6 leavers’ rounders afternoon on FRIDAY 18TH JULY ( not Friday 19th as on original info given out - apologies), and thank you to those parents who have offered to help.
If you have not returned your slip (or have lost it), then please do ask for another one and return it to Lucy B, Carys, or Sarah by Wed 9th July. We can then confirm numbers and contact the parents who have offered to help on the afternoon.
Don't forget all parents are welcome to attend and join in the fun!!
Yours sincerely,
R.J.Harris
