Dear Parents,
Newsletter 2008/16
Wildlife Quiz : The School Wildlife Quiz team has won the Stroud Final and go forward to the County semi-final. They beat Chalford Hill and Woodchester Schools on Tuesday in a closely fought match. Well done Jemima Hooke, Issy Smith, Lauren Holland and Katie McEllin.
Anup Biswas : Anup Biswas, the internationally known cellist, will be leading music workshops in his own inimitable style on Monday June 9th. If any parents would like to join us in watching the opening concert at 9.00 a.m. you will be very welcome.
The crocodile that went snap! : This morning in Assembly we gave out prizes for the competition to illustrate Andrew Brown’s story “The crocodile that went snap”. Congratulations to Bluebell Burns, George Evans and Lucy Cole, the winners and thank you to all the children who took part. The plan now is to search out a printer who can print the story and include the children’s illustrations. More details later in the term.
Science Week: Science Week begins on the first Monday after term with a special Assembly put on by a company called “Mad Science”. All the classes will be involved with a wide range of activities, including visits to places of scientific interest, and will be receiving visitors into the classroom. It should be a great week! I am sure many of the KS1 class teachers would appreciate some help during the week. If you are able to offer some time, please see a teacher or leave a message in the office.
The PTA Golf Day: A message from John Cope : This year's golf day raised the most amount of money of all four events that we have organised so far totalling £2,246.35. The combined figure across the four years is circa £8,000 and Murrays have always supported us. It has been particularly poignant this year as sadly Clive and Jenny have both died since the last golf day in 2007. The PTA and I would like to thank John and Eilis Cope, who organised the event, and all the parents at school who supported this event by playing golf, going to the dinner, buying raffle tickets, donating prizes and making donations. Without this support the golf day would not have been as successful as it was - we hugely appreciate this support.
A message from the Minchinhampton Moonwalkers:The Minchinhampton Moonwalkers put their best foot forward on Saturday night and stepped out to complete 26.2miles around London in aid of breast cancer research. Angela Brown, Louisa Nott, Jackie Mc Cormick, Ali Richards and Annie McGill donned pink, sparkly, fluffy, conical-shaped bras to raise awareness for this very deserving charity. Supported by an amazing number of people who cheered them on all night, they completed the course in a very respectable 6 hours and 27 minutes. They would like to thank all those who have supported them both through attending the Pink Party earlier this year and also through sponsorship. Although the final count has not been made, they believe they are within sight of having raised their target figure of £11,000. If anyone would still like to sponsor them, it is not too late. You can sponsor securely on line by going to their team site which is www.justgiving.com/minchinhamptonmoonwalkers or see one of the Moonwalkers themselves.
PTA News : PTA meeting : Wednesday 4th, 8.00 p.m., in Classroom 2S. All are welcome.
Summer Fair – Sunday June 22nd : The PTA is working hard on the plans for the Summer Fair. Please put the date in your diaries.
BALL 2009: Many of you have enjoyed the previous balls, which have been held on alternate years, and all of our children have benefited from the great sum of money raised from this event. If the pattern is to continue, we are due a ball next year. In order to secure a venue, band etc. this event needs planning now. Would you be interested in forming a committee with a group of people? There are plenty of notes to help anyone to organise this event - there's no need to start from scratch. If you can take the reins on this, please do! It would be great to hold this event next year but it simply won't happen without you ....... Please call Paula Cole on 883209 if you can help. Thank you.
Half term : I hope everyone has a pleasant week’s break. School reopens as normal on Monday June 2nd.
Yours sincerely,
R.J.Harris
