Dear Parents,
Newsletter 2008/13
PGL 2008 : 36 of the Y4 children left this morning to travel to the PGL Centre at Boreatton Park, Shropshire, for their multi-activity adventure weekend. They will without doubt have a wonderful time and will be challenged by some of the activities on offer, e.g. kayaking, the high zip wire, abseiling and wall climbing. Holidays in term time: You will be interested to read of the Government and Local Authority’s statement sent to Headteachers this week about holidays in term time. As you will know, there is a serious concern about pupils taking holidays during term time, both in our school and by educationalists nationally. The statement reads:
“Holidays in Term Time:
The Local Authority is taking a firm stance regarding parents wishing to take holidays in term time, the recommendation is that holidays in term time should not be authorised unless it is for exceptional circumstances.
No holidays should be taken during public examinations. Schools should have a clear protocol for holidays in term time in their Attendance Policy so parents are aware that holidays during the school term are not acceptable.
Any holiday taken without approval will be deemed as unauthorised, and should this exceed 10 sessions a Penalty Notice can be issued.
Link to policy is: www.gloucestershire.gov.uk/parents click on School attendance and the Education Welfare Service
Tesco and Sainsbury’s vouchers: We are continuing to collect the vouchers. Thank you if you are sending them into school. At the moment, we have over 10,000 Tesco vouchers and 4,400 Sainsbury vouchers.
