April 25th 2008,

Dear Parents,

Newsletter 2008/12

Badminton Club at Thomas Keble School:

I have details of a new badminton club for 8 – 16 year old children, meeting on Tuesday evenings, 6 to 7.00 p.m.  The cost for the term (until end of July) is £35.00  If any one is interested, I can let them have the details.

After school clubs: The following clubs will continue or begin next week

Tuesday           Orchestra                     8.20 -9.15 a.m.            Y2/3 and older by invitation

Wednesday      Art Club                      3.15 – 4.15 p.m.          Children already attending

Wednesday      Cricket Club                3.15 – 4.15 p.m.          Y5/6 pupils

Friday              Athletics Club               3.15 – 4.15 p.m.          Y3 pupils and older

We would be very grateful for help with Cricket and Athletics Clubs, where children will need a lot of hands-on help.  If you can join a rota to assist with cricket or athletics, please let the school office or me know.  You won’t be expected to come every week.

School Success: Catherine Kiff conducted her annual School Improvement Partner Visit on March 17th (during my absence) and I have just received her full report.  It is an excellent report and is highly complimentary of our school.  It categorically reports that the school is effectively led and managed, that standards are consistently well above national figures, that childen’s achievement, personal development, the quality of teaching and learning and how well the children are guided and supported are all good.  However, we have been set very challenging targets for the future, so there is no chance that we can sit back and be complacent!

I like Catherine Kiff’s final comment…..”The school has a vibrancy and excitement that underpins excellence and enjoyment”.    We have been placed again in the Local Authority’s Category 1, which means that Minchinhampton School is regarded as one of the top performing schools in the county.  Well done everyone!

The Coigne Playgroup – A message from Cathy Brown, playgroup chairperson: The Coigne Playgroup would like to thank everyone who turned out on a wet and windy afternoon on March 29th to support our Spring Fair.  It was great to see so many parents and children from school there and we raised over £800 which is absolutely fantastic. This is a huge boost to our funds and will enable us to purchase some lovely new equipment for the children.  Many thanks for all your help.

PTA NEWS:

PTA Meeting, Wednesday 30th April, 8.00pm:  All parents welcome – new faces and old!  The meeting will be in Mrs Smith’s classroom, entry via middle playground.

Curry Night, Saturday 10th May:  With this newsletter is a flyer for the PTA Curry Night.  Earlier in the week a ticket form was sent to all parents via the bookbags – there are more in the office for those that have been lost in transit.  Please come along and enjoy a great night out!

Golf Day, Friday 16th May, Minchinhampton New Course:  More information available from the office for this event.  You are welcome to attend the dinner in the evening even if you haven’t swung a club!

Sunday 22nd June:  Summer Fair – more details to follow, but please put the date in your diary.

A message from Sarah Davies-Berry:
'THE SECRET GARDEN' film night and

'CHILDREN'S PUPPET  COMPETITION'
The Minchinhampton Dramatic Society will be showing the film of 'The
Secret Garden' on Friday May 16th at 7.30 p.m., tickets £5.00 from M and B
Stores. This is to give a taster of the play which we are producing in
November with auditions on July 9th.
As an added incentive to get children involved with The Secret Garden we
are holding a ‘make a puppet’ competition – specifically a working model
of a snake, robin or raven, which appear in the play, and asking the
entrants to bring them along to the film night on May 16th.
There will be two age groups: 7-11 and 12-16. The prize for the younger
group will be something connected with art or drama. The best entry in the 12-16 age group will be awarded £25.00
For more details please contact the Chairperson on 01453 872529 or
