March 14th
Dear Parents
Newsletter 2008/9
Mr Harris visited us all again, on Wednesday. He is very well, even managing to help put out the washing! His wife is obviously as pleased as we are to see him make a speedy recovery. The children greeted him in the playground with such enthusiasm he can be reassured that he has not been forgotten!
Easter Week
We are engaging the children in a week of activities leading up to the Easter Weekend. Every day, assembly will be led by members of our local churches, telling the story of Easter.
Monday-Palm Sunday
Tuesday-The Last Supper
Wednesday-The Garden of Gethsemane
We look forward to you joining us in the Parish Church for 2pm on Thursday.
Summer Term Clubs
In preparation for the summer term, I was hoping that there may be someone in our local community, that would be willing to organise an after school Cricket Club. We have many keen children that have already expressed an interest and a very female dominated staff. Come on boys, we need you!
Athletics Club will take place as usual. If there are keen volunteers to help with this, we would like to hear from you.
Playground Contract
We have been establishing the safe areas for our children to play, and they have all discussed ways that we can show respect for our beautiful school. You can see these rules displayed visibly around school. We are asking your support by reinforcing the need for children, before and after school, to keep off the banks and the growing areas. This is particularly important around the front of the school, below the Nursery play area, where some shrubs have recently been pruned.
Relief Cleaner wanted
Mr Phillips is always ensuring our school is as clean and tidy as the children deserve. There are times when owing to sickness and holidays, we are short of a cleaner. If you are interested and available between 3.30pm and 5.30pm please contact Mrs Mitchell in the office.
Easter Egg Hunt
The Easter Egg Hunt is this Sunday, hopefully around a sunny Minchinhampton. It starts at 2pm and we would be grateful for any cake donations. We look forward to seeing you then.
Projects we have been working on as a school.
Mock Trial
My first opportunity to really reap the benefits of Headship came when I had the opportunity to accompany Mrs Smith and her well-prepared group of Year 6 to Stroud Magistrates Court. Imagine how proud I was to witness the confidence of Carys Gerard and Lucy Gardner as they tried to defend Liam Linnane against the crime he claimed not to have committed. Bluecoat School, in Bisley gave credible reasons why he should be charged. The magistrates, ably called into court by the usher, Lauren Williams, decided on a verdict of guilty. I must applaud the dedication of Mrs Smith and all Year 6 children who took part with such professionalism. Lucy Blundell has a definite future as a journalist and Luke Bloodworth as a court artist.
Netball Tournament
This was hosted here, on Wednesday. The members of the squad were: Jodie Birch, Lucy Gardner (Team captain), Alex Kemp, Kirsty Lees, Sarah Longwill and Laura Pitman. Minchinhampton School played against Bussage and Leonard Stanley. Although we did not proceed to the next round, Miss Tonner was very proud of the squad. A big thank you to the helpers. Well played to all the girls that took part.
Next newsletter will be after the Easter break- Friday 28th March.
Have a good mini holiday!
