Dear Parents

Newsletter 2008/7

I am writing this newsletter early this week so that I can give you good news about Mr Harris. He has had the operation, as planned, on Monday and all went well. We now are looking forward to his full recovery. He will be in hospital until at least the weekend. Every time we have an update of news I will inform you via the newsletter and a message board in the playground. We are hoping he will have time to enjoy his family and have all the rest he needs, so are encouraging you not to visit him at this stage. I will let you know when he tells us he is getting bored of his own company and has got through the massive stash of train magazines. If you would like to send a card,  you are very welcome to bring it to school with a stamp on and we will address it to him for you. I will be visiting myself, every Friday, and so am happy to pass on all of your best wishes.

Thursday 6th March – World Book Day

We are hoping to celebrate this occasion by asking the children to bring into school up to 2 books, in good condition, that they no longer read. They will then be given the opportunity to purchase a book at the cost of 50p. All proceeds will be sent to the African children that Mr Harris visited, so that they can buy books.

During the day the children will also meet with a local author, Mr Graham Hobbs, to discuss what is involved in making your own book.

They will have the opportunity to see some of his own creations – including ‘When lawnmowers Fly’ and more recently, ‘The Black Band.’ Hopefully he will inspire our own children with his love of writing. Certainly as a regular contributor to assemblies as part of the ‘Open the Book’ team, he is highly valued.

At the end of the day the children will be given a ‘World Book day’ voucher to go towards purchasing a book from a bookshop of their choice.

Photographing Children

As you can appreciate, many of the exciting activites we do with the children are ones we want to share. Sometimes this will be on our own school web page and at other times it might be in the local paper. We need to ensure that if any parent DOES NOT wish their child to be photographed for these purposes that we know. It is important that our lists are updated so that your wishes can be respected. If you do wish to ensure your child is not photographed we need to know in writing. Please indicate whether your objection is to the web site, the newspaper, or photographs generally. It will be assumed that every child with no written notice can be included.

Vouchers for Schools

You may have noticed that both Sainsbury’s and Tesco’s have begun another opportunity to collect vouchers for schools. There are boxes outside the office for these. Your contributions will be very welcomed and will help the school provide additional P.E and computer equipment.

Valentine Disco

A huge thank you from the PTA to anyone that helped with the organisation. It was very successful and greatly enjoyed by all.

A special mention to our dedicated floor mopers - Ewan O’Kane and Luke Jones.

Sunday 16th March - PTA Easter Egg Hunt

The Easter Bunny will be visiting Minchinhampton this year on Sunday 16th March. If you would like to join us for a fun stroll around the town the ticket information is in the book bag. If you can help on the day please contact Tracey Southgate on 883195 or Rona Burnett on 886995.

NO Art Club

There will be no Art Club next week.

Thursday 20th March

Advanced notice that our Easter Service will be in the afternoon this year. We are planning this to be a very fun occasion for all while giving a clear message about the importance of Easter in the Christian calendar. More details to follow.

Please be thoughtful about parking!

We have had real problems this week, with people parking their cars in the drop off zone. This leads to a gridlock to our system. Please be considerate. If you need to come into school for any reason, you must park your car outside the school. Thank you.

Thank you for all your help this week. It is much appreciated and helps Mr Harris be reassured that his school is in safe hands.
