2008 Science Week Class 1/2H 2N 2P

Class 1/2H:

Science Week started off with a real ‘BANG’ last week, as Lightning Rod the Mad Scientist began with a cool assembly.  Our class topic for the week was ‘Forces’, and each day we investigated a different area. Monday continued with the nice smells of frothy yeast and iced buns (Yummy!). We also had a great time seeing how magnets worked and planning and making our own magnet games.

Tuesday took us on a trip to @ Bristol. It was really cool there as we learnt so much. Our favourites were the Hamster Wheel, the Shadow Machine and Wi style basketball.  Other events during the week included ‘Bubble Bombs’, parachutes, aeroplanes and investigating friction with car surfaces, shoes and oily jelly (No we didn’t eat it!).

Our final highlight was exploding vinegar, bicarbonate of soda, warm water and red paint from a volcano. First the pretend lava looked like frothy coffee, but then it turned red after a while. It was so very exciting.

All in all it had been one busy, busy, fun week! What’s happening next year Mr Harris.

Class 2N :  We had a great Science Week making moving models. We designed and made jumping beans, zoetropes and monsters in a box. We also had explosive fun when we created our very own bubble bombs using vinegar and baking powder. Another favourite activity we did was the study of liquids and solids, melting chocolate to make Chocolate Crispie Surprise.  The trip to Cheltenham to see “Snakes on Stage” and “Mad Science” was a super day that we all enjoyed.  We liked the talking robot.  Can we have another Science week please?!

Class 2P : Last week we had an interesting and fun science week. On Monday, we set up some experiments about what insects like to eat.  We wrote up our results every day. On Tuesday we made paper aeroplanes and paper boats.  We watched how they went and with the boats we watched to see how much weight they took.  We went on a school trip to the Science Festival in Cheltenham.  We saw some snakes on stage, some mad science and we had some time in the science zone.  On Thursday we melted chocolate over candles and then mixed them with rice crispies to eat. On Friday we made bubble bombs and gloop.  Some of the bombs exploded and some of them didn’t! And that’s what we did in Science Week!!
